Unavailable due to its battery problems, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has nevertheless performed very well during our full review. Although it looks like - physically - at a declination of XL Galaxy S7 edge, this new smartphone brings a lot of interesting features. Here are the main.
1-A modernized interface:
It is well known TouchWiz, the Samsung overlay, we adhere or not. There is no middle ground. However, with the Note 7, the Korean giant has decided to make a step forward in modernizing its interface, and by offering more condensed settings. We find support for custom icons (which was not previously the case), and a reorganization of themes.
Finally, the fast action of the notification bar was treated to refreshments and additions, as a filter of blue light very relevant or can switch a WQHD display with Full HD or HD. Welcome additions.
2-A screen that supports HDR:
You may have heard of these manufacturers that integrate the HDR support in their televisions? Samsung is one of them. Well, know that the Galaxy Note 7 also integrates this functionality. But that's not all. The screen of the phone also offers a very high brightness, with a theoretical maximum of 1048 cd / m2 (our measurements indicate about 500 cd / m2 in manual, however, mode), well above the E5 of Xiaomi with very good 660 cd / m2. In comparison, the Galaxy S7 only rises 440 cd / m2. However, the brightness can only be achieved through automatic mode, thus avoiding battery consumption.
3-The iris scan, THE novelty:
The big news this year is the arrival of the iris scanner. The first feature introduced by Microsoft with "Hello" was taken up and reworked by Samsung.
Based on frontal infrared sensors, it is a secure way to unlock the phone or secure applications in a dedicated folder. Note also that the option works even at night (in theory), and that it is possible to record only one eye (unlike fingerprints, since it is possible to save those of several people) .
In fact, the use is more tedious than the fingerprint sensor, as the reliability that seems to us quite skinny.
4-The S-Pen, the rating definition:
As every year, the Samsung stylus has a few changes and this year is no shortage of money. In fact, he got a package of enhancements making it even more unique. At the hardware level, there is a finer mine coupled with increased sensitivity and a pressure sensor. So, use the S-Pen is even more enjoyable.
Note also its water resistance (IP68). Why is this important? A waterproof phone is good, but when it is wet, your fingers are no longer recognized ... That's where the stylus into play since the S-Pen is designed to function even when the screen Note 7 wet. It will be noted finally that this single button on the S-Pen, now plays the role of gum when pressed.
5-A secure virtual environment on the phone:
While Samsung already offers a security solution under the name of Knox, the Galaxy Note 7 embeds a more secure version. Indeed, the secure folder appears as a folder with an additional security layer. In this folder, you can store files, photos, and even applications. Access is secured by a password, a fingerprint or an iris. More interestingly, you can use the applications installed on the rest of the phone with a different account. A second Gmail address to another account Snapchat ... so you can secure private or business accounts.
6-Create GIF natively:
Among the many features of the existing stylus, new were incorporated into the Galaxy Note 7. Among them, a very simple manipulation for creating GIF without installing the additional application. Just out the S-Pen, choose the GIF option and select the area to register in any application or web page broadcasting video. It is of course also possible to make fixed or animated screenshots.
Fact: for a little nuance its use, be aware that many videos are protected against reproduction, which may block some of our GIF cravings.
